2022-2023 Season

 

The Auburn IHSA Equestrian Team is a University Organization.  It is open to all students with a desire to learn about horses and get practical, hands on experience.  Our competitive show teams are open to men and women riders of all skill levels in the hunt seat discipline.

 

Executive Board

As an official University club we will have an elected Executive Board to run the team which is made up of the Officers and Committee Chairs:

  • President, Hunt seat Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

 

Committee Chairs: Team Travel, Media, Horse Show, Stats, Community Service, Fundraising, Marketing and Social.

 

Practice

You will be responsible for catching, grooming, tacking and putting your horse away.

You need to plan to arrive early and stay after to care for your horse. 

Practice times will normally be held in the mornings (6:00 – 10:00am) during the week.

 

Member Types & Fees

 

Competing Member (Open, Intermediate, Limit):  Selected through tryout process. 

Practices 2x per week and will receive 24 practices and 1 scrimmage. 45 min - 1 hour practices.

Opportunity to earn a competing spot at horse shows. -- $1,320 per semester

 

Competing Member (Novice, Introductory):  Selected through tryout process. 

Practices 2x per week and will receive 24 practices and 1 scrimmage. 45 min - 1 hour practices. 

Opportunity to earn a competing spot at horse shows. -- $1,080 per semester

 

Non Competing Member:  Selected through tryout process. 

Practices 10 times per semester including 1 scrimmage. 45 min practices.

This riding opportunity is to improve skills and possibly work towards a competing spot. -- $500 per semester

 

General Member: Involved in all club activities except riding at practice and competition. 

Plan, organize and run home competitions, assist at away competition, travel with team, help with team horse care, show grooming, assist coaches during practice, video, learn about judging, course design and horse show management. Possible riding opportunity.

 

Work Outs

Team workouts are required for all riding members Full time members work out 2x per week and Part time members work out 1x week in small groups with a personal trainer. 

                       

IHSA Membership (for Competing members only)

            1 discipline $45 per year

            2 disciplines $65 per year

 

Team Dues

$75 per year which will include two team shirts

 

Show Fees

            There is a set cost to travel to horse shows.  The price will include:

            $35 per class entry fee per class

            $60 coaching fee per day

            Dinner (breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks covered by team)

            Cost of bus or van and gas

            Hotel

           

Show Clothes

All clothes are the responsibility of the riders.  Auburn does have some show clothing for riders to use.  Many team members are willing to share clothes as well.  There may also be opportunity to rent clothing.  The following will be the rider’s responsibility:

 

Hunt Seat:

Approved helmet

Hunt coat                    

Breeches: Tan, Tailored Sportsman or Ariat

                        Tall Boots

                        Shirt

                        Belt

                        Gloves

                        Hairnets

Try Outs

Try outs will be held at the beginning of each school year.  We are looking for approximately 3 riders per division.  We will have a total of 24 hunt seat riders on the competing teams.  We need riders of all skill levels and experience.

Tryout fee: $25

                $15 Beginner/Introductory Riders (walk/ trot) with less than 24 weeks experience

Limitations

The IHSA team is open to all full time students *** seniors in last semester can be part time

Must be in good academic standing

Both men and women are permitted to ride and compete. 

Due to horse welfare we will enforce a maximum 200 lb weight limit for all riders.
