The Auburn IHSA Equestrian Team is a University Organization. It is open to all students with a desire to learn about horses and get practical, hands on experience. Our competitive show teams are open to men and women riders of all skill levels. We have both a huntseat and western team.
Executive Board
As an official University club we will have an elected Executive Board to run the team which is made up of the Officers and Committee Chairs:

President, Huntseat Vice President, Western Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Committee Chairs: Team Travel, Media, Horse Show, Stats, Community Service, Fundraising, Marketing and Social.
Practice
You will be responsible for catching, grooming, tacking and putting your horse away. You need to plan to arrive early and stay after to care for your horse. Practice times will normally be held in the afternoons (1pm- 4pm) during the week.
Member Types & Fees
Riding Members: Can choose how many times per week they ride (horse dependent). You may choose to ride 1 to 3x per week.
Beginner Level Riders: $30 per practice. Practices will be 30 mins and will focus on all the basics of riding, correct functional riding position and introductory maneuvers Time will also be spent on learning correct grooming, tacking and horse care techniques.
Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship: $40 per practice. Practices will be 45 mins and will focus on improving skills, strength and conditions, correct, functional position and basic training techniques.
Jumping and Reining / Ranch Riding: $50 per practice. Practices will be 45-1hour and are limited to riders approved by coaches through prior team experience or videos. These practices are designed for upper level riders fine tuning their skills while working on correct functional position, strength and conditioning and advanced training techniques.
General Member: For people who just want to be around the horses and learn more. You will be able to assist with horse care, participate in volunteer opportunities, be involved in committees and meet people who love horses!
Payment will be due monthly. You must pay for the month of practices during the 1st week of the month. We do except checks and credit cards.
Work Outs
Team workouts will be virtual this semester and it is encouraged to attend at least one virtual workout a week.
IHSA Membership (for Full Time members only) WILL NOT BE REQUIRED FALL 2020
1 discipline $45 per year
2 disciplines $65 per year
Team Dues
$75 per year which will include two team shirts
Show Fees: WILL NOT BE REQUIRED FALL 2020
There is a set cost to travel to horse shows. The price will include:
$35 per class entry fee
$60 coaching fee per day
Dinner (breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks covered by team)
Cost of bus or van and gas
Hotel
Show Clothes WILL NOT BE REQUIRED FALL 2020
All clothes are the responsibility of the riders. Auburn does have some show clothing for riders to use. Many team members are willing to share clothes as well. There may also be opportunity to rent clothing. The following will be the rider’s responsibility:

10 x or higher western hat

Try Outs
There will be no tryouts Fall of 2020. You must fill out a rider information sheet and a rider Application and return it along with your fall class schedule.
Class Credit
Course: ANSC 2150 & 4150, Skills and Concepts of Equestrian Sport is a 1 hour class available to all riding members who ride at least 3 months
Expectations
Attend scheduled practices and activities

Be involved in Club committee
Work at all home shows
Volunteer at NCEA meets
Participate in Community Service
2 hours of barn work a semester
Excel in horse care
Be a great teammate
Limitations
The IHSA team is open to all full time students *** seniors in last semester can be part time
Must be in good academic standing
Both men and women are permitted to ride and compete.
Due to horse welfare we will enforce a maximum 200 lb weight limit for all riders.
